    Biography

    Sr. Mavis Champagne, OLS was born and raised in south Louisiana and has been a Sister of Our Lady of
    Sorrows for 35 years. She received her bachelor’s in Art Education (LSU-Shreveport), her master’s in
    Rehabilitation Counseling (UL-Lafayette), her certificate in Religious Ed (Loyola-New Orleans), and is a
    certified Spiritual Director (St Charles Center-Lake Charles).

    Her position at Las Cruces Catholic School is that of student support. During the past 35 years, Sr. Mavis has taught both religion and art. She has been an administrator at two facilities for children and adults with developmental disabilities (OLS Community Homes and St Mary’s Residential Training School), as well as at a daycare center (Elisabetta Renzi Child Development Center)and an afterschool program (Renzi Education and Art Center) for children living in a high risk, low-income neighborhood. She also held the position of responsible authority (OLS Primary School) in
    Chegutu, Zimbabwe. Finally, she has worked with women in different stages of formation in religious life while living in the United States, Italy, Bangladesh, and most recently, Zimbabwe.
